One thing we Veggie Runners love is a pop-up running event. This one was part of the This Girl Can campaign which, as you probably know, aims to help girls and women get active, whatever their shape, size or age. Which, as you also may know, is something very dear to our hearts.
This International Women’s Day event marked the launch of Leeds Girls Can*, highlighting how easy it is to be active wherever you live. We led a guided urban run, taking in some of the major city landmarks. As an aside, hats off to the women from Leeds Carnegie American Football Squad who ran with us in full kit! Them girls are hardcore.
We do Roga too, the ultimate run-yoga combo, so hooked up with downdogdays, who led some perfectly honed stretches for runners and for people who just happened to be strolling through Trinity shopping mall.
Overall, a fantastic day. Running, table tennis, skipping, rugby, a blow-up running track, American football, beanbags on heads, Olympic medallists and thirty thousand shoppers. Not bad for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
*A popular topic of discussion in Yorkshire pubs is whether there should be an apostrophe in phrases such as Leeds Girls Can. You may find yourself wondering whether it should be Leeds’ Girls Can. Probably best not to go there.
