The full story of our Marathon and A Half for Mark is below. Here’s a quick update on our progress so far.
UPDATE! We did the Great North Run in (for us) the super-fast time of 1.58.22. We had an amazing day and have been delighted with the support from sponsors so far. Here’s our race report so you know we pounded every mile!

So, the half-marathon is down, now just the FULL Yorkshire Marathon to go – eeek! That’s much, much harder; we do love running but 26.2 miles all in one go is really tough. Please, please help us reach our target and make it all worthwhile. The gods will smile and you and so, from our crashed-out-on-the-floor-afterwards positions, will we 🙂
Mark Rodgers – Our Mark as, being northern, we called him – died of cancer at the age of 35. To us, his family, he was a wonderful brother, uncle, husband and son. We treasure our memories of him and still miss him in one way or another every day. During Mark’s illness and afterwards, we received incredible support from charities who helped him and us cope with the drastic changes taking place in our lives.
This year, we’re running the Great North Run AND the Yorkshire Marathon in Mark’s memory. We’re fundraising for The Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which supports a range of charities working with people affected by cancer – we want to help provide other families in this situation with the support they need as they go through the same kind of sad and confusing time we experienced.
We’d love it if you can support us in any way you can. A few pounds, a few pence, the coins from under the sofa cushions, one less cafe latte – no one’s judging. Whatever you can afford is enough for us and we’ll be grateful for every penny. It’s super easy to donate and all currencies are accepted. As an added bonus, Bibi’s employer will add an additional 25% to our total. Please give generously.
We’ll be blogging about our training here at www.veggierunners.com and, when we’re able to lift our fingers to the keyboard again, writing race reports. We’re also on Twitter @VeggieRunnersUK, where we’ll be detailing our day to day running trials, tribulations and hopefully occasional triumphs. We hope you can join us online and be part of the Marathon and A Half Journey with us.
Thank you so much for your support. Knowing that we’re helping with something bigger than ourselves is helping us get through our training miles!
